Perspective

The dirt wouldn’t stay out from

under her nail, just the one.

She gave it a fraction of an effort.

She didn’t realize that fruit comes from

handfuls of dirt.

The bread of sorrow seemed vanity;

all the labor was consumed by lunch.

She let all the joy drain through the sieve.

She didn’t realize that laughter comes from

time and a full sink.
